Hampstead residential hospital conversion in North London

EK Specialist Surveys recently completed a roof survey of a historic hospital/residential conversion in Hampstead, North London.

There is no direct access to the roof and the managing agents needed to understand the condition to ensure no repairs were required.

Using the drone enabled close inspection of the various elements of the roof without the need for scaffolding or other access equipment and ensuring minimal disruption to the residents.

The challenges for the drone team included:

  • Management of the operation area as residents were entering and exiting the building throughout the duration of the survey.
  • Keeping VLOS (visual line of sight) due to the size, number of roofs and location of the property. This required a lot of movement and communication between ground crew and the remote pilot.
  • Natural hazards (trees and birds) surrounding the building required careful planning and skilled flying of the drone around the property.

The results of the survey were very successful. The drone was able to capture high-quality images of the roofs, which were used to create a detailed report.

The use of a drone allowed the survey to be completed quickly and safely and it provided the client with the information they needed to make informed decisions about the roof.
